Saveur at Purvis Street

My sister have been raving mad about this french restaurant for the longest time, and we (mum, sister and me) finally went there on a Sunday evening to give it a try. We arrived at about 5.45pm and there was already a queue outside the restaurant, Saveur only opens at 6pm. Queued and got a seat when they opened.

We followed my sister's recommendations (she's been there for quite a few times already!) and placed our orders once we were seated. Well, we won't want to wait too long for our food, that's why. She recommended the duck confit, pasta and salted caramel lava cake.

Food was served pretty quickly, at least the pasta and soup came quickly, so we could have our starters as we wait for the mains. Service was pretty good too, they were very attentive and cleared our empty plates almost immediately after every dish.

Overall, I think all the savoury dishes are so-so only. I'll only be back for the desserts, the salted caramel lava cake especially, it is godly hehe!

P.S. I'm sorry some of the photos are not very sharp as I took them with my Samsung S3, the photo quality have been worsening recently.

Fresh and pretty thick, but I'll prefer it to be more creamy and salty.

A signature of Saveur's, pasta tossed with chilli oil, fine-chopped Japanese konbu & sakura ebi with minced pork sauce

Texture of the pasta was good, I liked the sakura prawns.. It kind of tasted like our local bak chor mee? No complains though. Do note that this is a starter, not a main course, so the portion is definitely not filling enough.

DUCK 10.9

Duck leg confit, homemade mashed potato, sauteed shitake mushroom,
orange segments & orange infused natural jus

This is kind their most popular dish? Read about it online, and almost every table had one of this. Personally, I don't like duck meat, there is this ducky taste that I dislike. My sister loved this and my mum says it is not very nice. However, all three of us loved the buttery mashed potatoes with the sauteed mushrooms, the combination of the mashed potatoes and mushrooms was godly hehe. I think the sides stole the limelight of the duck.

A roulade of chicken thigh stuffed with foie gras-infused chicken farce,
creamy basmati rice & parmesan sauce

I say this is really cheap, since it contains foie gras. However, it smells. I don't know if it is the chicken or foie gras that stinks though. Mum thinks that it is the chicken. The sauce and the rice was good though, that's if you like salty and creamy stuff.

(I don't know the name/price/description because their online menu is not updated.)

This was alright, nothing can possibly go wrong with fried potatos right?

Pistachio-flavoured cooked cream, topped with ground and caramelised pistachio

Ah, I like this! The cream was quite fragrant, sweet, and not too thick. The only bad thing is that the nuts on top are not crunchy, left in the open for too long I guess.

OMG this was really really good, I'll definitely be back again for this! It was served warm. (like duh!) The caramel filling was sweet and salty at the same time, I like. The cake was dense and yummy too. When eaten with the cream, you'll get both cold and warm sensation in your mouth at a go which was pretty good!
