Tips on Chinese New Year

Woohoo, my favourite public holiday is here, Chinese New Year~~ Three days of public holidays (plus it is a long weekend this year) with lots of food, red packets, family members and more!

It is the eve of Chinese New Year already, this post is so so late opps! Here are some tips and stuffs to note if you're still not ready for tomorrow!

Spring cleaning

Do some cleaning and packing, throw away all your old and unwanted stuffs! This is supposed to clean away the "bad fortune", but logically, you will want your house/room to look more presentable when friends and relatives come visiting too.

Most of you should have already done your nails at your favourite salons before today right? Me didn't. For those who haven't, it is time to DIY, spend the time after reunion dinner tonight to prettify your nails.

Pssst, if you don't have nail polish at home or you really need a quick and good one, I'll recommend L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Vernis polishes (you can grab it from any Watsons store) that is super easy to use and dries really quickly!

And here's my CNY nails if you need some inspiration! Just finish doing my nails, did half of it last night and finished it up just now! The roses look nice and ugly to me at the same time hahaha opps, but I spent a lot of effort on the roses ok.. Used China Glaze Poinsettia (Red) and White Out (White) on my nails, and topped it off with Seche Vite top coat which is the best top coat ever, all from Smoochiezz which sells them at the lowest price ever.

Your facials should be done about one week ago too, but I didn't go for any facial. Opps busy and lazy me. If you're like me, give your skin a last minute boost by masking later tonight before you sleep.. Gonna try out my new masks from Tahpre, they look promising hehe :D

Have you went to the salon to do your hair? If you haven't gotten your roots touched up or treatment done at the salon.. Maybe you can dye your hair yourself at home, some of my friends use Liese Bubble Hair Dye! Or at least do a DIY hair treatment tonight at least? Leave on conditioner for 10-20 minutes in your hair as a mask..

Yay I touched up my roots, added red violet highlights and did my favourite curement herbal treatment at Shunji Matsuo 313! Blogged about it here

I'll be using my own make up for Chinese New Year, didn't buy any new make up because I have too much already. Just use whatever make up you have, nobody will know if it is a new or old makeup that you're using hahaha. Most importantly, just look good! Errr, not much tips on this, just doll yourself up and look pretty okay! :)

Woohoo, CNY is like one of the best ever reasons to do clothes shopping! I did my CNY clothes shopping earlier this January in Bangkok hehe.. Remember not to wear black when going visiting, elder relatives might not like it as black symbolises bad luck! Wear red if possible hahaha, but I think I don't have any new red clothes though..

The most ironic part is that I'm wearing a black dress and on my way to swissotel for my CNY reunion dinner now! Luckily my parents are cool with this kind of stuff..

With that, happy lunar new year! ~

Liposuction or not?

Ah, this is something that I've been thinking about recently, ever since I gained a few kilos last December... Liposuction!

I guess most of us knows what's liposuction right? It is a procedure to remove fats by "sucking" them out!

Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture suction lipectomy, or lipo, is a type of cosmetic surgery which breaks up and "sucks" fat from various possible parts of the body, most commonly the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves, and back. The fat is removed through a hollow instrument - a cannula - which is inserted under the skin. A powerful, high-pressure vacuum is applied to the cannula.

Results of lipo suction seems promising, and there are huge differences in the before and after photos! Go google for more~

I was thinking of removing some of the stubborn fats in my thighs by liposuction.. If you don't know, I'm pretty short, but my thighs are improportionately huge compared to the rest of my body. I guess this is in my genes, been having thunder thighs since young; and even when I was in cheerlead a year ago, my thighs are still quite big compared to the other parts of my body which was more toned then. Buying shorts is quite a problem for me, either the thigh opening is too small or the waist area is too loose, never a proper fitting one. :( Oh, and I hate dieting and exercising! Lazy me I know, that's why I'm looking at liposuction.. I want an immediate and effective way to have slimmer thighs!!

If you don't know, I'm the one in the red circle. Just look at my thighs *cries*

I googled about liposuction, read forums about it and I can't decide if I wanna do it yet. To be honest, I might have gotten myself even more confused than before, because there seem to be other alternative fat/contouring procedures such as lipolaser, lipofreeze, smartlipo, liposelection and so on~ I don't know which is cheaper, more effective, more painless, etc..

Here are some stuffs which I've learnt about liposuction! (and some of the information are holding me back from doing it)

  • Liposuction will cost about $5000 or more in Singapore, but this amount also depends on the amount of fats removed and other variables, read in forums that quite some lades actually head overseas where the costs are lower.

  • Anaesthesia is required to perform liposuction.

  • Hospitalization is needed when a higher volume of fats is removed.

  • Downtime is about 2-3 days before one can go back to work.

  • There will be swelling, bruises, lumpiness and loose skin for a few weeks. (Google for the images) The post-op photos online looks super scary!!

  • Post-op might be painful, all the online sources gave me different information about how long the pain will last, so I'm not sure about this.

  • One will have to wear compression garment for quite some time after the surgery to contour the treated area.

  • Some fats and blood may leak out from the incisions after surgery.

  • It takes a few months for full recovery.

  • It is possible to transfer the fats to other parts of our body (eg, breasts)

  • There are some botched procedures and one man even died from liposuction, scary!

I definitely want slimmer thighs but I'm not sure if liposuction is the way to go for me.. I can't afford the downtime and I'm afraid of the pain as well as temporary bruises! Furthermore, it is definitely out of my budget currently, being a student, so I don't even need to consider it. Think I might resort to other treatments that are cheaper and lesser invasive as of now.

When can I have slimmer legs???

Look at what MFP's editor, Bianca, has to say about this...

My Hair Story #11 - Chinese New Year Hair!

Hey hey there is less than a week left to Chinese New Year!! Have you done your hair, nails, clothes shopping and new year goodies shopping? My clothes shopping was done in Bangkok, and I just did my hair..

Finally headed to Shunji Matsuo at 313 yesterday to get my hair done for CNY, was so busy ever since school started. Been doing the photos for this post since I came home just now because I want this post to be out fast; this might be the "freshest" blog post ever, done in less than 12 hours.

Anyway, I shall talk less and let the pictures do the talking in this post because... my hair looks nice haha!! Be warned, major photo spam below.. Love all the photos in this post!~

I’ve got red violet highlights in my hair this time round! Super like hehe! :D

Shunji Matsuo 313 was super duper crowded when I went for my appointment, the whole salon was full on a weekday afternoon. Remember to give them a call to make an appointment before heading down especially during this busy festive season ok? There is no additional surcharges for this CNY period yay!

Got my black roots touched up to my usual brown color, added red violet highlights to the top and also did my favourite curement herbal treatment! Yippee silky smooth hair for me again ^^

As usual, Jerry did my hair like a pro. I'm very very impressed at how he did my highlights this time round! See him picking at my hair? He's choosing the strands of hair that will go red violet. My highlights is really cool, different amount of red hair will show depending on how I style my fringe.. So versatile!

The color of my highlights is Red Violet (SR-RV) from Matrix SoRED series, the same color that I had on the inner layer of my hair a few months ago. I like this series because the reds are really vibrant and bleaching is not needed at all!

And TADAH!! Photo time..........

Faster go do your hair for Chinese New Year and have pretty hair like me. :D There is no festive surcharge at Shunji Matsuo 313, plus you can quote “yingjie” to get 10% off chemical services. Remember to ask for Jerry because his works are just impressive!

year three sem two

I just wanna whine tonight.... I will understand if you want to skip reading this post..

I am so T.I.R.E.D.

I'm less active here recently because school has started and I'm facing a surprisingly heavy load. Feeling so breathless when it is the second week only. I have weekly quiz, assignment and lab, lab means 6 hours of lab work weekly and full lab report to do. This semester is a lot more horrible than in the past. In the first week of school, I already had 2 quizzes, one online and one during lecture. :( And my life will be looping on a weekly basis like this: lab - quiz - online assignment - work - do lab report - and it goes on. Very tiring.

Oh, and I'm working at night on some days, I really want to save up some money... Plus I'm supposed to attend fitness classes by Fit To Win for the next 7 weeks.. And I need to blog about more interesting stuffs.. Feels like I have no time at all :(

Also, things haven't been going too well for me recently, I really do hope to get out of this unlucky patch soon! Feeling so exhausted facing all the unluckiness :( Even when things look like they are going to turn well soon, something ridiculous will crop up and tadah, bad luck again. Just today, I broke something really expensive in lab for no reason.. I was using it really gently, and suddenly it broke. Roars. This is just one incident, many other ridiculously random and unlucky incidents.

But I can't wait for next week, my birthday and Chinese New Year week! Finally a break for me and more reasons to pamper myself~

NOTD: Ingenuous Rose

My nails have been bare for quite some time, because they have been thinned out by my DIY gelish manicure experiments and I wanted to let them rest for a while..

But I cannot stand my bare nails anymore, so candy pink nails for me now! :D

Used two coats of L'Oreal Color Riche Les Vernis in 209 Ingenuous Rose after a layer of OPI base coat. Loving the candy pink color whee!~

Pic-bits #25 - Some of the food that I had in the holidays!

I've been eating a lot as usual, but I gained a few kilos suddenly, kill me please. I really need to go for liposuction or lipolaser or lipofreeze soon. Mehs. Someone recommend me something?

Ate so so much in the holidays hehe.. But of course, there are a lot more food that I gobbled up and forgot to take photos before eating.. So here are some food photos in no particular order!

Mushroom soup and ice lemon tea. The mushroom soup here is super duper nice, I think the best ever? Super salty and creamy, totally my type! Ice lemon tea is the normal sour type, so not to my liking.

Truffle mash potato, this is super duper nice too! The texture of the mash is very creamy, and there is a slight hint of truffle flavour, perfect because I don't like the truffle taste to be too strong! :D

Half chicken in creamy mushroom sauce. The chicken is super soft, and it comes with cream sauce, my type of food again aha! We always ask for extra gravy, and it is free of charge, happy hehe.. This was not bad too!

Ben & Jerry's

Came here to spend our last voucher! We already brought 4 pints home in early December.. Picked sweet cream and cookies + chocolate chip cookie dough for our last pint, I'm so glad we have the same "taste" when it comes to ice cream flavours! ;)

Song Fa Ba Kut Teh

This is at clarke quay, nice! First time eating ba kut teh with dough fritters, yummy!

Sembawang white bee hoon (白米粉)

Queued and waited for 1 hour for this, worth it! This is one of bf's favourite food hehe :)

Domani Cafe

I blogged about this cafe before here. This time round, mummy ordered a truffle pasta which is freaking nice, but too bad, no photos of it because she dug into her food too quickly..

Pork Ribs

Thermidor lobster

Fluffy pancakes for dessert

Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe

Opps sorry forthe blurry photo, the place was pretty dim so I can't take a clear shot..

Cold Stone Creamery

Kept having ice cream with my boy lol!

 River Safari

The food there was super expensive and not very nice, so only took photo of the cute stuffs!

The special panda paus! We ate the chocolate filling pau, ok ok only.. Oh, and the dessert for our meals in the background.

This is ice cream, very cute right? I think it is a pineapple + cocobut flavour, not very sure haha..

The King Louis

Blogged about them before here. Me and bf shared this huge platter wahaha!

Old Town White Coffee

Kaya Butter Toast. This tasted quite okay..

Curry potato + 3 pratas, and iced milo + iced milk tea. I don't like my curry potato, some of the potatoes are blackish, and when I asked the staffs about it, they say they deep fry the potatoes before cooking them in curry. But why some of the potatoes not fried leh??? I strongly suspect the fried potatoes are leftovers from some dishes that they can't sell out, and so they threw the leftovers into the curry. Mehs, not gonna eat this anymore!! :(

Been wanting to try the food at Laksania for ages, finally!

Lemon grass drink.. Not yummy but not not nice also, this taste just don't really suit my tastebuds..

Singapore's Laksa. Yay I love this, this comes in second in my list of favourites, first will always be my beloved katong laksa!! And it is better than Katong laksa in one way, because it has half an egg and katong laksa don't..

Laksa Lasagna.. This was yummy too! Good for people who loves laksa but can't take any spicy stuff, because this is not spicy at all. My bf loved this! It comes with laksa gravy, cheese, pasta slices, chicken, and tau pok (fried beancurd). The only bad thing is that the chicken is a little smelly :(

So end of the food spam haha!! :D

I'm preparing my blog post on Bangkok for now! ~~
