VDL Face Makeup

Here are some bestsellers from VDL which I received earlier this year after attending their opening event at Orchard Ion Linkway. Been using a couple of them regularly and I love them! :) Just like you, I was new to VDL. I was pretty interested in their products as they are a pretty new mid-range Korean brand (2 years old now) in Singapore and a friend of mine strongly recomends this foundation. So here's my review on the Skin P+R=O Almighty Ampoule Essence, Lumilayer Primer and Perfect Lasting Foundation (from right to left)! image The first step before applying any makeup, the VDL SKIN P+R=O Almighty Ampoule Essence (50ml S$88), is an anti-oxidant ampoule essence. Because our skin gets exposed to the harmful sunrays, anti-oxidants help to repair and prevent damage caused to our skin from the inside-out. This ampoule essence is made of natural fermented ingredients which helps to break down the molecular structure of ingredients to deliver nutrients for the skin, great for improving skin condition and reduce signs of aging. It has a liquid texture which is very lightweight, good for any skin type. It hydrates my skin and makes it feel softer. I'll recommend those lazy bums to use this as an all-in-one skincare if you don't have the habit of applying any skincare before makeup. image VDL's bestseller should be the VDL Lumilayer Primer (30ml, S$36). Apart from making our make up more long lasting, it is made of VDL's very own patented Violet Lightflects pigments! These pigments work to reflect light off different angles of the face, giving a more 3D and highlighted look. These pigments are in a cool violet and silvery tone, which I believe is good for giving our skin a glowy look and to reduce redness. The texture is amazingly very lightweight and I actually find it moisturising even when I apply makeup without any skincare beforehand (lazy me opps). I have had primers which dries way too fast, resulting in making my skin not smooth enough for makeup application, but not this. I actually share VDL's link for free samples with my friends, and I have received quite a number of good feedback from them. This primer can be used in 2 ways, applying up to a 1:1 ratio by mixing with their foundation (below) or applying a layer of primer all over the face before applying foundation. Personally I like to mix them in a 1:1 ratio for my daily makeup to acheive a foundation with relatively moderate coverage as I only have to apply once (save time) and I can also skip highlighting (which is quite a few steps). wpid-20150713_152051.jpg Last but not least, VDL Perfecting Last Foundation SPF 30/PA++ (30ml for S$42) is a long lasting foundation that provides matte and good coverage. It is formulated with ther in-house Light-Fitting Cover Complex, Lumilayer pigments and Bio Moisture Layer Technology. The Light-Fitting Cover Complex are pigment particles that has a flat surface, enabling smooth application without clumping, delivering a flawless and even foundation coverage; the Lumilayer pigments make our skin radiant; and the Bio Moisture Layer technology balances water and oil level in the skin. The liquid foundation can be easily applied with my fingers. Foundation is matte when applied alone (a little less matte when mixed with primer), and I feel that it is just right for most skin types. Not too dry and not oily or sticky at all. Personally, I will still set my makeup with loose powder after the foundation. 20150713_152232 As you can see, a small drop of foundation is able to provide pretty good coverage on my hand, and you can still see the shimmery/glowing effect of the Lumilayer Primer in a subtle way. They compliement each other just right, don't you think so? As I have mentioned above, my favourite way to use them will be to mix them in a 1:1 ratio on the back of my hand before I apply them to my face. This way, I can save time by applying just once, skip highlighting and also extend the "life" of my foundation hehe. image VDL has actually launched two new babies in their Lumilayer family this year - Lumilayer Primer Fresh with gold, red and white pigments as well as the handy Lumilayer Primer All Over Stick - which I have instagrammed earlier on this year. Will do a review on them when I have the time again! I can't wait to try their cushion and other make up too! Meanwhile, do give their lumilayer primer and foundation a try if you are looking for a reliable mid-range foundation! :)

Groupon Review - Mellben Legend Seafood

Been wanting to try Mellben Legend Seafood after reading many good reviews online and from friends, so when we spotted Mellben on groupon, we purchased the deal immediatey! Decided to have our seafood feast when we were having our staycation at Corpthorne King's Hotel. Happy! :) I think the groupon was S$70 for S$100 or something similar to this value, I bought it months ago. We also topped up some cash because our bill exceeded S$100 in the end. Ordered too much, oppsies! Their serving was generous, so we ate for more than 2 hours, till we almost exploded haha.. wpid-20150523_204634.jpg The groupon was only applicable to the outlet at Opal Crescent, which is about 1 or 2 bus stops from Potong Pasir MRT station. We made a booking for 8pm and were seated immediately upon arrival, I guess their peak period was over already at that time. wpid-20150523_221808.jpg This branch is kind of like a coffee shop and it is not air conditioned unlike the Toa Payoh outlet. We were seated at the seats along the corridor, just beside a drain and a parking lot, and there were quite a bit of flying ants initially, but they went to another table after a while. Suggest that you opt for the seats inside if you come to this outlet. The menu was a little different from Toa Payoh's, some crab dishes that are available at Toa Payoh is not available here, and vice versa. wpid-20150523_204051.jpg We thought that we should have a vegetable dish, but we were unable to decide on what we want, and their staff suggested this cabbage dish which was not on the menu. We were feeling spontaneous and decided to go along with her recommendation. The cabbage was cooked with some braised pork and served on a hotplate. This dish is kind of oily, and the meat were mostly fatty parts that I don't eat, but the sauce and vegetable tasted pretty good! Rate: 6.5/10 wpid-20150523_203438.jpg I love both cereal and salted egg dishes, so I was torn between which prawn dish to order initially. In the end, we decided on cereal tofu so that we can have both cereal and salted egg dishes haha! To my disappointment, the cereal was just poured over the fried tofu and mayonaise. I prefer cereal dishes that is more salty and fried with the main ingredient (tofu, in this case) if possible.. The taste was definitely alright so no worries if you'd like to order their fried tofu. Rate: 5/10 wpid-20150523_203557.jpg This is the salted egg prawn. I asked to have deshelled prawns so that it will be less trouble to consume. This dish tasted pretty alright, and their portion is super generous! There are like more than 10 prawns inside.. If I didn't remember wrongly, it costed us less than $20? Rate: 7/10 wpid-20150523_204201.jpg And here's the highlight of our meal, since Mellben is famous for their crab dishes, especially their crab bee hoon. The staff recommended their laksa crab bee hoon (not available at toa payoh's outlet), so we decided to try it. I love laksa and the bf just want something that he can dip his fried buns into (haha so cute right). I guess this dish is pretty value for money, considering the portion. It costed us $60ish, and comes in a big claypot. It came with lots of thick bee hoon which two of us were unable to finish despite stuffing ourselves mad. The crab is pretty good, although not the best that I've tried so far. There was no "crabby taste" (if you know what I mean). The soup was very watery, with some milk and laksa spice. Don't expect thick laksa gravy like our Singapore laksa. It was a little spicy, but it was tolerable especially when the soup is not so hot (both of us can't take spicy food). Rate: 7.5/10 wpid-20150523_204641.jpg The boy's fried buns.. These were kind of oily, but kind of expected I guess.. Not as fragnant as I expected it to be.. Rate: 5/10 wpid-20150523_204511.jpg We enjoyed our meal, and paying less than $100 after the groupon deal for this spread is definitely value for money. The only downside would be the environment. Suggest that you request for the seats inside if you were to visit this outlet. If you see this groupon deal again, I'll highly recommend that you buy it! :) I actually visited Mellben's outlet at Toa Payoh another time, and I find the taste and environment better on the whole. However, because I tried different dishes, I am unable to provide an accurate comparison for both outlets.

The Bling Me Prism Eyes is a water-base eye shadow that comes in 5 shimmery and girly shades. I love all these colors which are pretty subtle when applied, they totally give off the korean clean make up look when applied! wpid-makeup_20150901225552_save_mr1441119485844-1.jpg The Bling Me Prism Colour in Liquid Lips actually have the pigmentation of a lipstick but the texture of lip gloss! Don't be deceived by its appearance, I also got fooled into thinking that they are lip sticks initially, opps. ETUDE HOUSE Lashperm Curlfix Mascara is their latest mascara, it comes with new forumla and new technology, both of which are pretty amazing. I have tried it for a few times and it really exceeded my expectations, look out for my review for this, shall not reveal too much for now! wpid-makeup_20150901225552_save_mr1441119485844-1.jpg Look out for my upcoming ETUDE HOUSE product reviews, I can't wait to share them hehe! Old Boys Gallery + Vouchers Giveaway

Yay I found a new spot to dine and to hang out at - Old Boys Gallery! Here's a review of this place, and you gotta read till the end, because there are $100 worth of OBG vouchers up for grabs! You won't wanna miss this, really. Summary of my post: good food, affordable prices (with no GST and service charge), nice environment and good location! (Disclaimer: I'm sorry but the photos are not very clear. My camera was down, so I took the photos with my handphone and my phone's camera doesn't work too well under dim lighting of the bar. Still looks yummy to me though :P ) wpid-20151005_194755.jpg Old Boys Gallery is the latest addition to the neighbourhood of Kampong Bahru (a walkable distance from Outram Park MRT Station), serving western-fusion with more than 50 different variety of craft beers and ciders. In its location was formerly an art gallery but has now been transformed into a bistro where food meets art. Having yummy food in a gallery-like bistro is truly theraputic, especially after a long day at work! wpid-20151005_192221.jpg
The interior is made up of different types of art - graffiti, murals and canvas paintings. A quirky little bistro that is surprisingly comforting in its own way. wpid-20151005_192333.jpg Also, there is a wall with lots and lots of beer bottles! How cool is that? If you like to drink, you'd be spoilt for choices! wpid-20151005_192342.jpg

We had our drinks while waiting for dinner to be served. I picked apple juice ($4.50) while the BF decided to try out their Aspall Berry Cider ($12)! Quite a unique drink which I've never seen before outside.. Those who prefer fruitty drinks should try this! I don't usually take alcohol, but I find this pretty good.

Potato head ($7.90) & Spam chips ($9); Yuan Yang Chips ($9)

They have quite a huge selection of fries and chips, which are like my favourite finger food ever. Good to go with beer too, if you're there for a drink. House fries, truffle fries, sweet potato fries, spam chips and onion rings... Decided to try their sweet potato fries (comes with curry mustard dip) and spam chips (comes with wasabi mayo dip), and luckily they were able to let us have a basket with both instead of ordering 2 baskets, yay! They call it the Yuan Yang Chips ($9 for a basket), it is not on the menu but you may ask for this if the place is not too packed. I usually prefer potato fries, but I can't deny that the sweet potato fries tasted good, especially when paired with that curry mustard dip. Also, the spam chips are quite unforgettable as it is my first time having them, luncheon meat slices fried to the crispiness of potato chips. wpid-20151005_193710.jpg

Triplets ($21)

They actually have 18 different types of Bits & Bites (ranges from $9-18) in their menu, and we were given an option to pick three to make a Triplets platter! This is pretty interesting and good for sharing with your friends! We picked their signature OBG wings, OBG crab cake as well as Cordon Bleu for our Triplets. Our favourite would be their OBG marmite wings, the combination of marmite sauce and chicken wings is ingenious! wpid-20151005_194047.jpg

Manster Burger ($14.90)

Le BF had their signature burger, which is a beef burger with all the things you'd wish for on a burger! Cheese, egg, bacon and caramelised onions. The BF loved it and he said that the beef patty was juicy and nice! If you know me, you'd be wondering why I didn't order a basket of truffle fries earlier. This is because this dish comes with fries for the sides, and we had it upgraded to truffle fries (+$3)! We were given a choice of thick fries or shoe string fries, we had thick fries but I'd pick shoe string fries if I were to go back, nothing wrong with thick fries but I guess I personally prefer thinner fries.. They were super generous with their truffle oil, major love!! wpid-20151005_194304.jpg

Mushroom Carbonara ($12.90)

This is my favourite among all the things I had that night. I am some weirdo who loves carbonara but doesn't like ham or bacon, and this is super duper perfect for me!!!! I usually end up eating plain spaghetti with cream sauce, but now, I get a poached egg with lots and lots of mushrooms. The mushrooms are not bitter at all and the carbonara sauce was creamy and good. Can't wait to have this again~~~ This is totally made for me! If you're one who prefer having meat, fret not, they also have Roast Pork Carbonara ($14.90) and many more pasta choices. I find their Roast Pork Carbonara pretty interesting, since it is a fusion of chinese and western food. Who has ever thought of having your favourite "shio ba" with creamy spaghetti? wpid-20151005_194443.jpg Oh noooo, I'm so hungry after typing this post!!! I can't wait to head back there again, and I will definitely order the Mushroom Carbonara and truffle fries! Yum yum :D dots

Zeltiq Coolsculpting Treatment on my Tummy with Astique

Remember my previous visit to Astique? I mentioned that I'll be doing Zeltiq Coolsculpting on my tummy to reduce the fats on my tummy! It has been three weeks after my treatment, so I'll share about my experience here! mfpw_astique_yingjie-21_zpsuvho8gzm_2 Zeltiq Coolsculpting is basically fat freezing that uses the patented Cryolipolysis technology which is the only FDA approved fat-freezing technology. To simplify everything, Cryolopolysis freezes our fat cells, causing cell death, without doing damage to our other body tissues. The dead fat cells will then gradually leave our body via our lymphatic system, in the form of urine and stools. I know there are many fat-freezing deals at really low prices out there, but do take note that the machine used is most likely not the FDA approved Zeltiq Coolsculpting. Also, consultations and treatments might not be done by a qualified doctor, settings on their machine may not be right, so why risk yourself just to safe some money? As you know, Zeltiq Coolsculpting is a medical device, hence it is absolutely essential to consult a qualified doctor prior to getting the treatment. I had a consultation session with Dr Celine Leong a couple of weeks before my treatment. She has to access if I am suitable for this procedure or not, as this procedure to not suitable for everyone. Luckily (or unluckily) for me, I am very suitable for Zeltiq Coolsculpting as I have large amount loose fats in both my tummy and thigh areas. She also told me that about 20-30% of the fats will be reduced in just 1 treatment!

I came back on another day for my treatment. I was given a pair of black disposable shorts to wear over as I was wearing a dress that day. Before the treatment, the therapist briefed me on the procedure again, and also used a white pencil to draw and explain to me where she will be placing the device. I will be doing a 2 area treatment on my tummy, on the left and right of my belly button. Each area will take exactly an hour with the machine. Now is the only time, and hopefully the last time you will ever see these tummy fats! mfpw_astique_yingjie-6_zpsdfuavmbb I was then seated on this wide chair which can be inclined at many different angles for my comfort. Firstly, the therapist applied some serum and a gel patch on my treatment area which is to protect my skin from the freezing. mfpw_astique_yingjie-14_zpstwpmybs9 Next, she placed the machine applicator over the first targetted area (my right side) that is marked out previously and applied suction. I was shocked that there were actually so much tummy fats, so much more than I can ever imagine. More than two handfuls, I must say. They all went into the suction device in seconds, and at that moment, I actually felt a little uncomfortable as the device is a little heavy. I was advised that this is very normal and I will feel numb after a couple of minutes after the therapist start the freezing on the Zeltiq Coolsculpting machine. mfpw_astique_yingjie-16_zps1eyzgffz Luckily for me, there is this huge U-shaped cushion that is placed under the suction applicator, so I felt a lot better even before I became numb. mfpw_astique_yingjie-18_zpslzqstoha_2_3 The therapist then covered me up with blankets and adjusted my seat to make me comfortable for the next one hour. mfpw_astique_yingjie-19_zpsa1odvx5w_2 The therapist was very kind to prepare warm water and hot milo for me! She also left a walkie talkie beside me, which I can use to call for help or ask for more water, etc. If you are there alone, do make sure your phone/ipad is fully charged or bring along a book! You may also take a nap of course, if you feel comfortable enough to do so. Luckily for me, I have the MFP girls accompanying me and chatting to me the whole time, so I didn't get bored. mfpw_astique_yingjie-24_zpscpallvof After an hour, the therapist came and removed the applicator. This part is super uncomfortable!! My tummy was practically a frozen and hard piece of meat (or ham), just look at the photo!! I was pretty freaked out to be honest. I was thinking, "oh my god, what if this lump stays here in this shape forever?" It was a mixture of numbness and slight pain as the therapist massaged the area for a couple of minutes until my tummy doesn't look like a lump anymore, just slightly pinkish. I actually did some research online, people call this effect "a slab of butter" and this supposedly means better results in the months to come. Hopefully that is true! 20151001_194420 Luckily for me, there was still time that day, and the therapist did my second area after the first, on the left side of my belly button. I went through the same process, plus another one hour of waiting. I left the clinic feeling fine, and my tummy was just slightly pinkish and cold. I was advised that there might be detox effects for a week or two, and I should drink lots of water to "wash" the dead fat cells out of my body. Also, results will start to show after about three months. I will recommend you to do multiple treatments on the same day, as this means that you'll only go through the recovery phase (or side effects) once. I am pretty sensitive and the recovery phase was far from enjoyable for me. I started to have some side effects on the next day. My tummy swelled up very badly (I looked 3 months pregnant), and it felt really really numb. The nerves in my tummy area went crazy too, it was very sensitive and painful even when the cloth of my dress brush past my tummy slightly or when i touch my tummy. On top of the nerve pain, my tummy was also hard and painful from the inside. I know I don't even sound logical, how can it be numb and painful and sensitive at the same time right? But that was really the case for me, and I was very worried. Luckily for me, Astique has a 24-hr sms hotline, so I sms-ed them about my situation and they assured me that this is normal during recovery. I will not say that there is no downtime, but it is possible to go on with my daily life after the treatment. I definitely can't walk as quickly as before due to the pain, I can't sit down comfortably, I can only fit into super loose dresses, I can't hug my boyfriend, and my tummy hurts after meals (I believe it might be swollen on the inside too, hence less space for food). However, I was able to go to work and to go for dates, despite struggling with the discomfort. Everything only started getting better gradually after a week or so. At three weeks now, there is still a tiny bit of discomfort and pain, but my tummy is back to my original size. I am sharing about my side effects not to scare you all or to discourage you from doing the treatment, but to let those who are going for this procedure to be mentally prepared (unlike me). No pain, no gain, right? I am thankful that the side effects are almost all gone now, and I am looking forward to see the results two to three months later! Bye bye, tummy! Public Holidays 2016 Singapore

The Singapore Employment Act acknowledges that some people may be required to work on a public holiday due to the nature of their job. In such cases, the employee should be paid an extra day’s salary and get a different day off in lieu of the public holiday they missed. Sometimes a public holiday in Singapore falls on a rest day or non-working day. In this case, the next working day is a paid holiday. There are certain situations where a worker would not receive public holiday pay; for example, if they have agreed with their employer a period of unpaid leave which includes the date of the holiday. However, if they are on unpaid leave the day before or after the public holiday, their holiday pay is not affected. Another reason a worker may not receive public holiday pay is if they were absent without reason on the working day before or after the public holiday. The Employment Act is the most important piece of legislation regarding labour in Singapore. Most working people in Singapore are covered by it, but there are exceptions. The worker must be under a contract of service with their employer. This includes foreign employees living in Singapore, and the law applies regardless of how many hours they work and how regularly they are paid. However, managers and executives earning over $4,500 per month, seafarers, domestic workers, statutory board employees and civil servants are not covered.

Singapore Long Weekend Calendar 2016

2016 Public holidays in Singapore

The diverse mix of cultures and religions in Singapore means the country marks many different occasions with public holidays. This includes the primary Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist holidays, and secular events such as National Day and Labour Day. Everyone whose job is covered by the nation’s Employment Act is entitled to a day off on each of these official Singapore public holidays. This ensures that no-one is forced to work on a holy day in their religion, and all of the cultures that co-exist in Singapore are celebrated and recognised equally and respectfully. In Singapore, all working adults who are covered by the Employment Act are entitled to 11 paid public holidays in Singapore each year. These holidays are New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year (two days), Good Friday, Labour Day,Vesak Day, Hari Raya Puasa/Aidilfitri, National Day, Hari Raya Haji, Deepavali and Christmas Day. Groupon Review - Outback steakhouse

2323So here is another short review on one of our groupon food adventures! We were at marina square and can't decide on what to have for dinner some time ago.. I vaguely remember seeing a groupon for Outback Steakhouse (which is located at Millenia Walk), hence we decided to make a booking, purchase the groupon vouchers on my mobile app and head there for dinner! Yes, we booked before buying our vouchers haha, stalk my tips to shop on Groupon if you haven't. The groupon deal is still available now if you are interested, S$19.90 for a set meal instead of S$43.20 at 2 locations, available for 1 pax, 2 pax and 4 pax. We bought the 2 pax one of course haha! There are only 3 choices for the set meal - Ribs and Chicken combo, Black Pepper Steak Bites or Toowoomba Chicken - and each set comes with a soup of the day and a glass of soda. The staffs were polite and we were seated very quickly upon arrival. Each table also gets a free loaf of bread and butter, groupon or not, good for munching on as we wait for our food. image And here's our food! image If I remember correctly, the soup was some chicken and vegetable soup, and it tasted alright! image The BF picked Black Pepper Steak Bites since we were at a Steakhouse, and it was okayish. It comes with veggies as well as some fries. As mentioned in the groupon voucher, this is steak bites and not a big slice of steak that you get from the regular menu, so please take note if you wanna pick this. Taste was okay but it really seemed like scrap pieces of meat as you can see from the photo. He said that he'd rather pick the Ribs and Chicken combo if he was given a choice again. image I picked the Toowoomba Chicken, which is a piece of chicken breast, topped with Toowoomba sauce, and it comes with some veggies. I would prefer it to come with fries or potatoes instead of veggies, opps. The meat was pretty dry (chicken breast is meant to be dry) but it was fine for me as I prefer less fatty meat, so it depends on your preference I guess. The sauce was yummy, but the prawns that come with the sauce are those tasteless and transparent looking crystal prawns which I abhor. Still, I can't deny that I liked the sauce hahaha. image

Overall Review:

The food was okay, but not remarkably good. I can't deny I was a little disappointed in the food, as I have high expectations for this place which charges over S$40 for a set meal. I believe I am able to get a more satisfactory western meal at another restaurant for S$19.90. Maybe it is because we are restricted to 3 choices only, due to the groupon deal... However, it is still worth a try since it is more than 50% off, if you are interested. Their regular menu looks not bad though, so I am tempted to head back there to try their regular menu next time.
